Barbara Compton from Missoula will be presenting the June 25, 2008 Guild lecture/trunk show. Barbara is a very accomplished mixed media artist who specializes in surface design on fabrics as well as soft sculpture and contemporary basketry. Keep checking the calendar as we are trying to set up a summer workshop with Barbara in which she teaches dextrin resist
dyeing techniques.

...quilting tip of the month
|
When binding a quilt with “French (folded) binding” and you have some left at the end that you don’t know what to do with, cut it in 3-4” lengths and use it for “feeder” strips to make continuous sewing and to save thread. They work well when you have to stop sewing to press something. I keep a baggie full of them next to my machine.
Also, when you’re sewing on bindings, use a #11 Milliner’s needle. They are a pain to thread but they are long and thin and you can make fine stitches. Your fingers aren’t fumbling with short needles. They do have a tendency to bend after while but they still work. They work well on batik also.
Happy sewing. Fran Jackson
